Jizelle Salandy was born in Siparia on January 25,1987.
At 11, Salandy was coached by Kim Quashie.
By the time she was 13, she was aiming to go professional after a short amateur career.
At 17, she sought honorary citizenship from Curacao to have her first professional bout. She fought against Paola Rojas for the IBERO lightweight title in September 2002.
In 2003, Salandy was honoured at the City Day awards at Knox Street, Port-of-Spain.
Mayor Murchison Brown presented her with an award in commemoration of the 89th Anniversary of the Restoration of the City's Municipal Rights.
In September 2005, during Republic Day celebrations, she came up against Guyana's Manela Daniels for the NABC title, and she won on points.
In August 2007, Salandy received the Chaconia Gold medal for her contribution to sport in the region and other parts of the world.
