The lockdown around the Hyatt Regency, venue for the Fifth Summit of the Americas, starts this morning and not tomorrow as advertised. Dennis Mc Comie, national Secretariat spokesman, confirmed to the T&T Guardian last night that the lockdown begins at 6 am today and not 6 am tomorrow, as was agreed upon by security officials.
Mc Comie said no official reason was given by the security officials for the earlier lockdown. This means that Wrightson Road, between the lighthouse and Colville Street, will be locked off to all traffic, until midnight on Sunday. Mc Comie said the people of T&T were so overwhelmed by the Summit Village, that they flocked to the venue up to late yesterday, causing a serious gridlock on the westbound lane of Wrightson Road.
He said this may have been at the back of the minds of the security officials. “They may have sensed that this place would be like this tomorrow (today).” Mc Comie said hundreds of delegates and journalists arrived in Trinidad yesterday for the Summit.
I wonder what is happening
I wonder what is happening to schools on Monday?
The CR highway would be closed on one lane, the traffic would be horrendous.
Could the Guardian inquire from the Minister of Education on arrangements for late arrivals for students and teachers?
