Let calypso monarchs sing for summit—NACC

Published: 15 Apr 2009

The National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) yesterday called on the secretariat of the Fifth Summit of the Americas to include this year’s calypso monarchs and the Mighty Sparrow as part of the entertainment for delegates. The group felt that National Calypso Monarch 2009, Chalkdust (Dr Hollis Liverpool), National Calypso Queen Twiggy (Anne Marie Parks-Kojo) and Young King Jervae Caesar should be included in the performance.

“The committee feels that the organisers of the summit should seize this time to show the Americas, the rest of the Caribbean and the wider world what calypso really means to us,” a release stated. “To do otherwise would be a great loss to our national interest.” The committee noted that the Mighty Sparrow had already indicated his willingness to perform at the summit, and that “it is not too late to make adjustments to the various programmes.”
