Even mainland China wanted on-the-spot coverage of the Fifth Summit of the Americas at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain. The Chinese national television station, CCTV, despatched a two-woman crew from its Washington DC bureau to cover the Summit. On Friday they were in action filming the crowd waiting for the heads to arrive, and in between telling their viewers some facts about Trinidad and Tobago.
Journalist Hua Zhu told Sunday Guardian their head office in China had asked the Washington DC bureau chief to send a team to Port-of-Spain, particularly as US President Barack Obama was among the 33 visiting heads. The petite Hua Zhu, who looks like a teenaged schoolgirl, but handled her role in front of the camera as a professional, said her name means red flower.
