Jagdeo sees region lagging

Published: 19 Apr 2009

Guyana’s President Bharrat Jagdeo says the region needs bold and big initiatives to catapult the area, “not mundane, evolutionary hundred years transformation. “There are too many illiterate people and too much poverty for the region to remain competitive.

“The world is changing, and we are, in a relative sense, falling behind. We need bold initiatives like food banks or big initiatives where we would have satellites that would beam standard maths and English programmes to kids who live in remote areas, where teachers can go into the region.” Jagdeo made the comments during Saturday afternoon’s news conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, on Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain.
