Highway interchange opens tomorrow
The multi-million dollar interchange at the intersection of the Uriah Butler and Churchill Roosevelt Highways will be opened to vehicular traffic from 12 noon tomorrow. The Ministry of Works and Transport in a release yesterday warned motorists to exercise caution as traffic flow will be readjusted to facilitate the west to south overpass and the Bamboo bridge.
Construction of the interchange was supposed to have been completed five months ago. The project was awarded to Vinci Construction in 2007, at a cost of $321 million for Package B-which included the complete west to south elevated two-lane bridge as well as an overpass at Bamboo Village.
Parallel or frontage roads were done by the Works Ministry at a cost of $60 million.
Traffic configurations
• From Chaguanas and San Fernando to Port-of-Spain- routes remain the same.
• Heading south - on approaching Aranguez, get into the extreme left lanes to access the overpass to Chaguanas and San Fernando.
• From Port-of-Spain to Grand Bazaar and Bamboo #1 and #3 - On approaching Aranguez, get into the right lane on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway (CRH). Turn right at the traffic lights at the intersection of the CRH and Uriah Butler Highway and then proceed to the present Grand Bazaar exit. Follow the signs to Bamboo #1 and #3.
• From Bamboo #3 and Grand Bazaar going to Port-of-Spain- at the roundabout, proceed up the ramp across the Bamboo Bridge and make a right turn on to the new ramp just west of the bridge, which will merge with the existing south to west ramp onto the CRH westbound.
• From Bamboo #1 going to Port-of-Spain-take the new ramp just west of the new Bamboo Bridge which will merge with the existing south to west ramp on to the CRH.
Movements along the CRH and Uriah Butler Highway that remain the same:
• North/South
• East West
• East West to North
• North East to West
