?The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is asking customers to reduce their consumption of electricity. In a release yesterday, the commission said that around 12.15 pm, the power supply to Port-of-Spain and environs was interrupted due to inadequate generation capacity at the Pos Power Station.

The power was less than the minimum contracted capacity which resulted in the import of power on the transmission system. The result was an overload on one of the lines into Port-of-Spain which tripped. The limited capacity at the Port-of-Spain Power Station was then inadequate to meet the city's load demand, resulting in a rolling outage, the release stated.

T&TEC and PowerGen personnel responded and restored 75 per cent capacity to the transmission and generation systems. PowerGen continues to make capacity available at Port-of-Spain. The capacity shortfall at Port-of-Spain has unfortunately resulted in the need to shed load in surrounding areas. The commission and PowerGen have apologised for the inconvenience caused.
