Attorney General John Jermie has requested more information from the Chaguanas Borough Corporation to assess whether Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner acted wrongfully by donating $309,000 to rehire 54 retrenched workers. Local Government Minister Hazel Manning made the comment while addressing reporters, after touring the newly-constructed corporation building located opposite the old building. Manning was accompanied by Chaguanas Mayor Natasha Navas.
She said: "We are still awaiting word from the AG...He has asked for more information and I have asked the corporation to furnish him with the information until then I am waiting on his advice." Meanwhile, Manning said the cost of the new corporation building was estimated at approximately $30 million and was expected to be completed by year-end.
Saying that she was pleased with the construction of the building so far, Manning said: "I am really very impressed. The building is 95 per cent almost completed and hopefully by year-end it will be handed over to the corporation." The minister said similar buildings would be constructed in Arima, Diego Martin and in Princes Town.
