PM accused of showing disdain

Published: 23 Aug 2009

Attorneys Anand Ramlogan and Prakash Ramadar joined former AG, Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj in condemning a justice ministry if it would give the Government control over the Judiciary. “I fully condemn it. Any attempt by this administration, under Patrick Manning, to have any level of control over the Judiciary is dangerous,” Ramadar said.

“Manning has already shown disdain for the courts and disrespect for its rulings.” Ramlogan said the lines of demarcation between the Executive and the Judiciary in the Constitution were deeply drawn.
“Any attempt to redefine the boundary will create great scepticism and resistance. “The State and the Government are litigants in the court, which must, therefore, remain independent and free from political interference.”

Is that what they really do or do they/should they be enforcing them as written? Seems to me if they 'interpret' the laws then society will not be orderly.

......hmmmmm...... now that I think of it maybe that is indeed what they do.

Legal Minds Coming

Legal Minds Coming Together:
It is refreshing to see that Attorneys Ramlogan and Ramadar bave come together with Mr. Maharaj to raise the concerns of the people against Mr. Manning's plans of create a Ministry of Justice. We are very much afraid of Mr. Manning being able to manipulate our Justice System. We need more legal minds to speak up in the public arena to educate our people on the dangers of the potential move. We have to keep informed, seek clarification, and intervene if and when necessary. We cannot allow politicians to have control of our Judiciary. We desire improvements, but this can be done by the gov't investing more resources to make it work better.
