Prime Minister Patrick Manning says the Government will continue developing opportunities to showcase the talent of T&T.
Manning was addressing his constituents in his San Fernando East constituency on Saturday night when he made the comments. His constituents were treated to an early Independence Day gift at the Cocoyea Recreational Complex. A gift, Manning said, he owed his place of birth. Billed the Musical Experience, patrons were treated to the sweet music of Divine Echoes and the National Steel Symphony Orchestra led by Jessel Murray.
Defending the decision to build a Performing Arts Centre in both San Fernando and Port-of-Spain, Manning said: “We thought young people did not have enough outlets to showcase their talent. We came up to build a Performing Arts Centre in both South and Port-of-Spain.” He said the G-size pan would be among one of the instruments used to promote the musical culture when the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is hosted in November. Manning, however, revealed that plans were also on stream to establish a National Harmonic Orchestra. “There is a stage for them and it will be at the CHOGM,” he said. “Divine Echoes showed their talent by playing music and from the first time I heard this band they have improved considerably...They are now second to none.
“Following the research in pan, the National Steel Symphony Orchestra uses the G-size steelpan. It is the best steelpan in the world...no other steelpan can beat the G-size steelpan. “We have talent in T&T and we are going to showcase it.” So infectious was the music of both the National Steel Symphony Orchestra and Divine Echoes, patrons—even Manning and his wife Hazel—were seen swaying and tapping their feet when they belted out tunes like Lord Nelson’s Meh Lover, Scrunter’s Woman on The Base, the James Brown classic, I Feel Good, Jit Samaroo’s Festival of Voices and Pan In A Minor, along with many more. Also in attendance were Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs Marlene Mc Donald, Minister in Ministry of Community Development Junia Regrello and San Fernando Mayor Kenneth Ferguson.
Manning you need to showcase
Manning you need to showcase the corruption in the government, to the caricom leaders.

"tapping their feet", its a
"tapping their feet", its a natural reflex from running from crime.
after the sweet pan is back to sad tt.
What is the National Steel
What is the National Steel Symphony Orchestra? Is it a PNM sponsored organization that uses Taxpayers money? When are we going to have a National Indian Symphony Orchestra sponsored by the PNM using Taxpayers money? Let every creed and race find an equal place.
Mr. Manning let us hope you
Mr. Manning let us hope you really showcase the talent of sweet T&T and not just a carnival band. Lets go across Trinidad and Tobago and pick out all representations to show to the world this time around. We have a second chance at this. Last time we really messed up with McFarlane. Thanks
Now, since when the "steel"
Now, since when the "steel" in the National Steel Symphony Orchestra segregates one race from the other? Playing pan is NOT exclusive to one particular group, it never was and never will. So please, for the love of country, please stop this kind of self hatred and racism in Trinidad and Tobago, it is pity and narrow minded.

Well, look at thing, since
Well, look at thing, since when do Trinis not "beat" pan, since we become too posh or too politically correct, or are these words "playing our national instrument" to replace "beating pan" in our 20/20 vision too???!!! Then good luck with getting Trinis to say the "updated version" in their everyday conversations, you'll need it!
Is years now Trinis stop
Is years now Trinis stop beating pan. True. We does take real pride in we ting oui... I think we planning to "beat" politicians and criminals instead. And bowt this 20/20 vision thing, I eh know much bowt that, so I doing like cockroach and staying outta fowl business before I too get "beat" up oui... Yatacks!!!
Come on now guys Pan Music
Come on now guys Pan Music is sweet and let us not forget we do have Indians brothers and Sisters playing Pan e.g. Samaroo Kids
plus Jit Samaroo, I think is a big composer for Amoco Renagades.So let us be proud of our Pan music's and hope Manning can deliver.
To Zide Hosein: Somehow I
To Zide Hosein: Somehow I recall that membership in the National Steel Symphony Orchestra is open to any qualified panist who chooses to audition, and are consequently selected to the orchestra based on their talent, (not race, ethnicity or political affiliation.) The organization consist of individuals who are reflective of a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds (the composition of T&T) and is therefore truly multi-ethnic and multi-racial. Therefore, to attempt to stimulate a discussion claiming that those of Indian or East Asian descent are being neglected or discriminated by the existance of the NSSO is simply ludicrous. If you would like to have a National Indian Symphony Orchestra, either organize or create one, or petition the government to sponsor one. Simply complaining because you have a platform such as this forum to express you ignorance, does not improve your cause.
Stop being pretentious. You
Stop being pretentious. You all know as well as I do know that Steel pan/drums have been representative of T@T since around independence of our country by our beloved prime minister, Dr. Eric Williams.Our national dish also, what's it? pelau and kallaloo. The mindset is still there folks. We have to change and grow.Complaining is no good. Action,my man. Take action.And, yes we can.Pan is sweet and so to is tassa and double. As one person mentioned, we can have bread and circus.
Epsomsalts, yuh put ah smile
Epsomsalts, yuh put ah smile on meh face with dat one!
Peace.
And when the crime and
And when the crime and flooding so widespread this year, I think that takes precedence and should be showcased first. Let we study pan and carnival now, while people are dying and washing away.
Only in Trinidad and Tobago.

Taste of Sweet Pans -
Taste of Sweet Pans - T&T:
Mr. Manning, I would like to believe that I am a progressive individual. My love for the finer things in life, finds me a willing participant in the creative arts. I am of the opinion that we should all have the same opportunities. These 2 Performing Arts Centres were brilliant idea. Showcasing our talents to the world is not a bad thing. We should be proud of our arts, talents and achievements, and oh YES our people.
But, Sir, your timing in setting this your priority, for these 2 centres, was far removed from the reality we are being forced to accept in T&T today. I have to question your priority setting principles, not in your persoal life mind you - because that's Mr. and Mrs. Manning's business, not ours - You two can hang from the chandelier if you wish; but, the priorities in your governance as it affects my people of this country.
Which comes first, Sir? Which is essential for the people and the survival of this country? --
1) Accessible health care - a bed at the hospital when we succumb to illness - healthcare professionals there to attend to us - medication/therapy;
2) A country where crime and criminals are not keeping us prisoners;
3) Clean water in our taps 24 hours a day - 7 days a week;
4) Proper infrastructure to prevent flooding of our streets, homes and agriculture - leaving us devastated;
5) Bridges that do not collapse when we pull a 'box-cart' over it;
6) Schools that are not in disrepair - understaffed - ill-equipped, etc.
OR -- TWO (2) MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR PERFORMING ARTS CENTRES AT THIS POINT IN TIME?
I may be a bit ignorant here, but, WHERE did the money come from to design, construct and equip these centres? Could we not have downgraded them a bit, or put it on hold for a few years, and use some of this money for essential services? I believe that I must question what's going on in my country, as it is my inherent right, and I must do so while we are still a democracy.
In the meantime, I will put on my CDs, enjoy my music, soothe my weary soul, sing along if I feel like it, dance, engage in pantomime, or my tai chi, etc.
This gov't is more interested in facades, not substance. They are 'progressing' with structures to satisfies the egos and the eyes, and attempt to keep up with the Jones', and not involving themselves in the real foundation. When the foundation cannot hold the 'delusions of grandeur' anymore, it will collapse!
You know what I think, if
You know what I think, if Trinidad and Tobago get hit by a natural disaster and the world send help, and relief workers here working in Trinidad and Tobago, I think PM Manning might be in the Savanna Campaigning or be Might promoting Culture. As seen recently.

There are 16 parts but look at parts 10 - 16 on www.uncnothingyet.ning.com PM Manning you see I promoting your PNM videos too.
Now people pay very close attention to what this man saying and reflect on the Articles on the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian for the last 90 days (also the forum) and tell me what this man is talking about?
Ryan4Party
Now people I serous now, y
Now people I serous now, y should the PM showcase pan when he need to address the caricom heads about the problem we having, not from the world financial situation but by the natural disasters that are hitting many countries, with more frequency now, we are at the age of global warming, but still you want to build your poison plant to kill our planet some more.
Please take the morning off and spend some quite time and reflect on your people problems, and then tell the public what you are going to showcase to the caricom heads.
You telling me that every travel commercial for most caricom countries you see pan, they promote pan more than Trinidad and Tobago promote pan. So you don’t need to promote culture or pan to the caricom heads. I don’t think they are that dumb. But then when you speak to people that has a higher understanding, you are bringing them to your level!
Jack describes you best in his latest interview –
