UNC deputy political leader Jack Warner says there are more meetings to come between himself and Congress Political Leader Winston Dookeran. The duo met on Friday to talk about Warner's platform for change initiative. The meeting was held at Hyatt Regency Hotel, and then the two had lunch at the Breakfast Shed on Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain. Without disclosing anything further about the meeting, Warner said the meeting would assist in any upcoming elections. He said it did not necessarily mean a union of the two parties or a decision by either one.
"More meetings like this are carded to occur. I don't want to be able to look into the future and I don't want to make a prejudgment. "From where I sit, it's a good start. It will help in the campaign for local and general elections." Warner said the meeting represented a breaking of the ice between both parties, where items of national interest were talked about, and a consensus to moving ahead could be reached. Warner noted that the meeting was taken seriously by both parties, and not an attempt to waste time. He said he was not speaking for all members of the UNC.
"I'm speaking for all those who want change and who are looking for a new Government," Warner said. Meanwhile, Dr Bishnu Ragoonath, political analyst, said highlight of the meeting was that it was done publicly and not behind closed doors. "Dookeran and Warner wanted to meet publicly, and it was the most interesting part of their meeting. "This means that they wanted the eyes of the world to see, and this is to be expected in the political environment, in that politicians and those in Opposition speak to each other with a motive to join forces, to treat with issues that they commonly believe in."
