Deosaran: Please, don’t touch Justice Narine
Independent Senator Ramesh Deosaran is advising the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) against taking any disciplinary action against Justice Rajendra Narine over his decision to order the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions to investigate an alleged deal between Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr. Deosaran made the call during his contribution to yesterday’s 2010 budget debate in the Senate. Justice Narine made his ruling earlier this month, angering Attorney General John Jeremie who told Parliament subsequently that Justice Narine’s order was made after both the Court of Appeal and the Privy Council had ruled that the allegation as contained in an affidavit by Abu Bakr be struck off the record.
Deosaran said, however, that Jeremie was right to comment on Justice Narine’s ruling. Deosaran holds that law reform and other adjustments to the judicial system can happen only after matters were considered and debated in Parliament. He noted, however, that the question arises whether the judge should have passed the affidavit for further investigation by the police and the DPP, especially since, it was argued, it was struck out by the Appeal Court and the Privy Council.
He added further that it did not mean that the document was out of existence as there was a world outside the courts. Deosaran stressed: “The reputation of the PM, in terms of this accusation by Abu Bakr in the affidavit, is now before the public domain and I would wish that the matter be cleared up. I do not think that affidavit should be completely out of existence.” He then declared: “I say leave Justice Narine alone. Do not touch Justice Narine. I want the Judicial and Legal Services Commission to stay away from doing anything unfavourable to Justice Narine.”
Remember The Sharma Fiasco
Remember The Sharma Fiasco ...
Poor, fella, he might end up taking licks just like Sharma, having to defend himself and incurring massive costs.
As in the Shameful action taking against Sharma, with no apology being given after he was exonerated, this would also give rise to unwarranted expenditure of public funds to avail other than to seek to safeguard the reputation of some intellectually and morally corrupt nincompoops.
Hope that the man responsible for having these vindictive jokers in power is basking in the sunshine of his "Moral and Spiritual Values."
The kingmaker is happy as
The kingmaker is happy as pappy. He was able to get several extensions of his term of office and dictate some really good termination benefits, unlike his predecessors. And his pension & other perks are being reviewed for further enhancement while poor retirees ketching their behind.
One member of the JLSC has already expressed an opinion in a public forum. So can Mr Narine get a fair hearing? The CJ seems to be quite capable and qualified to deal with the letter the AG sent him and is expected to deal with it without fear or favour.
Do Not touch Justice
Do Not touch Justice Narine:-
Mr. Deosaran, the warning you are sending to 'hands off' Justice Narine is a wise one. I do hope they heed your call.
But I disagree with you in condoning the behaviour of Mr. Jeremie in our Parliament. His performance reeked of intimidation and harassment, and 'fire and brimstone' upon the head of Justice Narine, and anyone else who may attempt to go up against his boss, Mr. Manning.
If Mr. Manning and/or Mr. Jeremie objected to the call made by Justice Narine, could they not have held a session behind closed doors, in private to discuss this. Why was it necessary for Mr. Jeremie and Mr. Manning to behave like raving idiots for all to see. They were not simply criticising the decision the Justice made, but rather they were indulging in character assassination. Mr. Jeremie went to Parliament with his prepared text and ranted and raved for almost an hour. That was not simply exercising his "right to comment", it was overkill.
Remember the people, especially the youths are looking on and learning from the 'very best' how to 'misbehave' and destroy another human being who did something they did not agree with. Decorum they lack" Role models, they are not. What a disgrace!
We, the public are very concerned about the content of this Affidavid, and we need to have it addressed. We desire to know if indeed our Prime Minister 'misbehaved in public office' and made agreements with Mr. Bakr. We need to know the truth. So please do not hide or destroy this document. It has become part of history.
Mr. Deosaran, I do hope that all those who are waiting in the wings to destroy Justice Narine will heed your call to keep their hands off him. If they don't we cannot guarantee what may happen as a result. Remember the people of this country are getting angrier with each day, with the crime situation, the smelter plant, the flooding of all their possessions, road rage, proposed property tax increase, UDeCOTT Inqury, budget cuts to our Judiciary, and the list goes on. They are angry and anything that tests their patience can set them off. We have to be careful to not push their button.
Wake up. We can sit here and
Wake up. We can sit here and blog all day about what is being done, and the same result will occur. The result is that we are aware. If this is true then all of these feelings toward what people feel are true and solid. There is no one citizen who takes a back seat in collective thought of our precious government.

'Who have the corn will feed
'Who have the corn will feed more fowl' is a local saying. Choking the Judiciary by denying funds is one effective way in which the Executive can touch the Judiciary. That's an elementary tactic. That appears to have already been achieved in the 2010 Appropriation Bill. It's like you're telling your child: 'behave yourself, otherwise I'll take away your allowance'. Sen.Prof. Deosaran's duty to the nation's citizens, therefore, is to decide how he is going to vote in the Appropriation Bill. With utmost deference to the Honourable Senator, if he says 'Aye', then he may appear to be in tacit support of the Executive's apparent attack on the Judiciary, giving the impression that he's debating for debating sake. In chess, the Knight doesn't have to be directly adjacent to Queen to checkmate her: he can do it from five squares away!! Starving the Judiciary of funds may very well be 'Knight to a4, checkmate Judiciary'.

Justice Narine safe for now
Justice Narine safe for now because if they touch him now it will be to obvious but he better bat in he crease or else. Gardenia you have to understand that Deosaran has to say that the AG was right after he called for Narine's safety to protect himself...classic example of ass covering.

Yes we can!! We need a home-grown Obama. Are you ready and prepared to sign up?
We do have our own versions
We do have our own versions with equivalent platforms. They are young, and come with brilliant ideas for the now and the future. But what we need more than ever is to convince, or even assist them on their way out, those 'ancient and contaminated' politicians to step aside. They have already had their 15 minutes of fame, and has surely fallen out of favour with the populace.
Our younger sons and daughters need the support of those who do not follow blindly with the excuse of loyalty to the old guards. We have to start from the bottom up ...
Yes, but in my own lifetime,
Yes, but in my own lifetime, I've seen the young grow old and then embrace the very things they abhorred in their youth. It's a vicious cycle when you go full circle, but I do admit this is a generalisation and there are always exceptions to every rule. I'll give you an example. I read one of Eric Wiliams' early publications of the late 1930s or so very many years ago, I think the title was "The Negro in the Caribbean" or something like that (in those days you could get away with such words); the book was long out of print but a colleague lent it to me.
Williams was already Prime Minister when I read his book and he came across to me like a real revolutionary in those days, and I just could not recognise that young Williams in the Prime Minister I knew in his heyday, a conservative so comfortable with his Establishment status. Maybe as they say age brings reason, and maybe wisdom.
But wasn't it Shakespeare who in one of his plays wrote of man going full circle? Born with no teeth and dribbling and wetting himself and crawling along on all fours and eventually ending up in old age dribbling with no teeth, and crawling around full of leaks. But I admit that life has changed over the centuries and now we have dental implants, adult diapers and motability scooters and so on, so we don't have to revert to that childhood stage in our old age.
Take care now.
