Chaguanas blanks talks on CHOGM
Burgesses of Chaguanas blanked a town meeting called to sensitise the central community about the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The meeting, scheduled to take place on Wednesday night at the Central Regional Sporting Complex at Saith Park, was called off by the organisers when no one showed up. The organisers distributed 250 snack plates to people who were on the compound and announced plans to distributed the rest of the food to a nearby home for the aged at Beckles Street.
Felipe Noguera, communications co-ordinator for the CHOGM, said the meeting was called to familiarise the people of Chaguanas with the upcoming CHOGM and its related events. Noguera said for the Fifth Summit of the Americas people complained that Chaguanas was omitted.
He said announcements were made that the meeting was going to be held in the busy central borough. He said officials from the Chaguanas Borough Corporation were invited. “Apparently there was not sufficient interest to attract the kind of audience we were hoping for,” Noguera said. He said meetings were planned for Point Fortin, Tobago and St Ann’s.
