Minister: T&T can afford property abroad
Paula Gopee-Scoon
Foreign Affairs Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon says T&T has the capacity to purchase property, partly because of the global economic downturn. She said so during her address at the formal opening of the US$10 million Consulate General Office in New York on Friday night. Prime Minister Patrick Manning formally opened the new building and addressed T&T nationals there. Gopee-Scoon, in her address, said it was a special thing to be able to purchase property at this time.
She added that this was even more remarkable because the T&T Government had the capacity to purchase the property. Gopee-Scoon said because of the economic downturn, the price of property had been significantly reduced. She said the new office would assist T&T nationals and non-nationals alike. She said the purchase of property in New York, Washington and Toronto were clear signals of the Government’s commitment to serving the people of the diaspora.
Gopee-Scoon was expected to return home last night.
T&T can afford property
T&T can afford property abroad:
Another unsmart comment from another unsmart Minister.
This is Trini-style management.
How the heck can you afford
How the heck can you afford to buy a property overseas when you've just presented a deficit budget for the next financial year? Please, Madame Minister, don't insult us. Why not just tell us what the comparative cost to lease the property would've been so we could make our own minds up on whether we're getting a good deal buy puchasing the property? Why do politicians still continue to treat the whole electorate as a bunch of idiots?
Wait... they keep getting voted back in by the same elctorate... So maybe we are idiots.
WE CANT AFFORD
WE CANT AFFORD -
We can't afford the property taxes.
That is not what the people
That is not what the people that work for the embassy say, they hook up.
T&T Can Afford Property
T&T Can Afford Property Abroad:-
Madame Minister, please refrain from speaking untruths about our ability to purchase properties abroad. Citizens working in these embassies, and those who go there for service do not care for the luxaries you wish to showcase to the world.
If you have no money in the Treasury, it does not matter if the properties go on sale. You cannot afford to spend money you don't have. You cannot put it on your Credit Card and hope that the Tooth Fairy will pay the bill when you receive your statement.
The Prime Minister came back to us telling us to 'tighten our belts' again. Do you think that you can follow your P.M. advice?
The gov't has no more of our money to spend on non-essential things. The money is perhaps all gone.
I hope you will be prepared for the reaction coming from the people who can no longer take this oppression you are imposing upon them.
Obviously an upside-down
Obviously an upside-down sense of priorities, no matter how you put it or try to justify this continuing mismanagement of the country's dwindling resources and declining scarce foreign exchange reserves.
