Anan Rampersad...shot himself

An ex-policeman shot and killed himself while seated in a vehicle with his common-law wife, outside his Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook work place, yesterday. He was identified as Anan Rampersad, 48, of Cashew Gardens in Longdenville, Chaguanas. Rampersad, who was last assigned to Transport Branch, lived with the woman for the past 18 years. It was not clear yesterday, how he left the service. At the time of his death, he was an estate constable employed with Thor Security Services. His wife is also employed with the same company. Police said the incident took place around 1.45 pm, outside Players on The Avenue Club.

Police said Rampersad took up duties at the business place around midday, and his wife came in a vehicle to meet him. The woman told investigators they were having a conversation when Rampersad pulled out his service pistol and shot himself once in the head. He died on the front passenger seat of the vehicle. The police were notified and officers from St James Polices Station, led by Insp Henry Dan, visited the scene. Cpl Henry-Stuart is continuing investigations.
