Cops probe death of Chinese crewman
A Chinese boat captain and three crew members of a fishing vessel have been detained by police in connection with the death of a 26-year-old Chinese man. Xiaoliang Liu’s body was brought to shore at the National Fisheries, Sea Lots, in a makeshift coffin which was placed in a freezer on the vessel. The body bore marks of violence, the District Medical Officer Dr Dougdeen told police. The captain, who police said spoke little English, said he last saw Liu alive around 6 am on October, 9, fishing by himself. He said three hours later, Liu’s body was seen floating in the sea. Officers said the boat, Ocean Media, left the National Fisheries on September 3. The boat returned yesterday around 9.40 am and a report was made to the police. Officers led by acting ASP Sahadeo Singh, Insp Jayson Forde and PC Narine visited the vessel.
