?Del­e­gates of vis­it­ing Com­mon­wealth coun­tries were amazed yes­ter­day at the qual­i­ty of can­cer care giv­en to chil­dren of the Just Be­cause Foun­da­tion Pae­di­atric Spe­cial­ty Unit, Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope. Five fe­male del­e­gates from Pak­istan, Papua New Guinea, Tahi­ti, Aus­tralia and Cana­da were giv­en a tour of the unit yes­ter­day as part of the Com­mon­wealth Learn­ing Jour­neys Pro­gramme. They were greet­ed by founders Chevaughn and Noel Joseph and toured var­i­ous rooms of the unit, each of which were cre­ative­ly dec­o­rat­ed and paint­ed.

They al­so met and chat­ted with the pa­tients. JBF is a non-prof­it or­gan­i­sa­tion found­ed in ho­n­our of the Josephs' son Jabez "JB" Joseph, who died in 2007 af­ter a two-year bat­tle with mus­cle can­cer. The foun­da­tion pro­vides sup­port to fam­i­lies of chil­dren with can­cer. This in­cludes short-term ac­com­mo­da­tion for fam­i­lies who trav­el from re­mote ar­eas in T&T and the re­gion to ac­cess ra­dio­ther­a­py or chemother­a­py for their chil­dren.
