?Delegates of visiting Commonwealth countries were amazed yesterday at the quality of cancer care given to children of the Just Because Foundation Paediatric Specialty Unit, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope. Five female delegates from Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Tahiti, Australia and Canada were given a tour of the unit yesterday as part of the Commonwealth Learning Journeys Programme. They were greeted by founders Chevaughn and Noel Joseph and toured various rooms of the unit, each of which were creatively decorated and painted.
They also met and chatted with the patients. JBF is a non-profit organisation founded in honour of the Josephs' son Jabez "JB" Joseph, who died in 2007 after a two-year battle with muscle cancer. The foundation provides support to families of children with cancer. This includes short-term accommodation for families who travel from remote areas in T&T and the region to access radiotherapy or chemotherapy for their children.
