Union backs fast ferry plan to assist Haitians

The ex­ec­u­tive of Sea­men and Wa­ter­front Work­ers Trade Union (SWW­TU) is sup­port­ing Gov­ern­ment's ini­tia­tive to use the fast fer­ry in its on­go­ing ef­forts to as­sist the peo­ple of Haiti. In a news re­lease yes­ter­day, union pres­i­dent Michael An­nisette said the ex­ec­u­tive de­cid­ed dur­ing an emer­gency ses­sion to sup­port to Gov­ern­ment's pro­posed plan to use the fast fer­ry to trans­port much-need­ed re­lief sup­plies to Haiti.

The union has al­so ap­point­ed its as­sis­tant sec­re­tary gen­er­al, Nel­son Sin­nette, as co-or­di­na­tor for all re­lief ac­tiv­i­ties on be­half of the union. An­nisette and the ex­ec­u­tive are call­ing on all of its mem­bers em­ployed on the fast fer­ry to lend their sup­port, to en­sure the peo­ple of Haiti ben­e­fit ful­ly from the ex­er­cise.
