A 22-year-old man of Guaico Vil­lage in San­gre Grande was killed in a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent on the Va­len­cia stretch on Thurs­day night. Omar Ram­roop died on the spot af­ter he lost con­trol of his mo­tor­bike and col­lid­ed with a ten-tonne truck around 10.30 pm. Ram­roop is the sev­enth per­son to be killed this past week in road ac­ci­dents, bring­ing the road fa­tal­i­ty fig­ure for the year to 18.

Po­lice said the ac­ci­dent oc­curred in the vicin­i­ty of Hang­man's Cor­ner. They said Ram­roop went un­der the truck and was killed in­stant­ly. The truck was dri­ven by John­son Fletch­er of Long­denville. In­sp Roy, act­ing Woman Cpl Per­sad, PC Singh and oth­er of­fi­cers of the San­gre Grande Po­lice Sta­tion vis­it­ed the scene. Fire Ser­vice of­fi­cers al­so re­spond­ed un­der the su­per­vi­sion of fire sub-of­fi­cer Fran­cis. The dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer vis­it­ed the scene, pro­nounced Ram­roop dead and or­dered the body re­moved for an au­top­sy which was done yes­ter­day.

On Wednes­day, two men were killed on the Churchill-Roo­sevelt High­way. The mishap claimed the lives of Daniel San­to, 63, of Chin Chin Road, Cunu­pia, and Bob­by Kishore, of St He­le­na. On Sun­day, four peo­ple were killed on the Man­zanil­la Main Road. Rik­ki Bal­roop, 23, an em­ploy­ee at the Min­istry of En­er­gy; Rick­son Lal­la, 24, an in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­o­gy stu­dent; Mar­vin See­baran and Sardiya Shar­ma, 23, a chem­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing grad­u­ate, died in that ac­ci­dent.
