A 22-year-old man of Guaico Village in Sangre Grande was killed in a vehicular accident on the Valencia stretch on Thursday night. Omar Ramroop died on the spot after he lost control of his motorbike and collided with a ten-tonne truck around 10.30 pm. Ramroop is the seventh person to be killed this past week in road accidents, bringing the road fatality figure for the year to 18.
Police said the accident occurred in the vicinity of Hangman's Corner. They said Ramroop went under the truck and was killed instantly. The truck was driven by Johnson Fletcher of Longdenville. Insp Roy, acting Woman Cpl Persad, PC Singh and other officers of the Sangre Grande Police Station visited the scene. Fire Service officers also responded under the supervision of fire sub-officer Francis. The district medical officer visited the scene, pronounced Ramroop dead and ordered the body removed for an autopsy which was done yesterday.
On Wednesday, two men were killed on the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway. The mishap claimed the lives of Daniel Santo, 63, of Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, and Bobby Kishore, of St Helena. On Sunday, four people were killed on the Manzanilla Main Road. Rikki Balroop, 23, an employee at the Ministry of Energy; Rickson Lalla, 24, an information technology student; Marvin Seebaran and Sardiya Sharma, 23, a chemical engineering graduate, died in that accident.
