Two killed in highway crash

?A young cou­ple died on the spot yes­ter­day, af­ter a van crossed the me­di­an of the Solomon Ho­choy High­way and crashed in­to their car, caus­ing a three-hour traf­fic jam. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said that around 4.15 pm, Kelshell Har­riper­sad, 25, and Liana Salman, 21, of Friend­ship Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do, were head­ing home in their Sub­u­ru car when, up­on reach­ing the Tarou­ba Over­pass, tragedy struck. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said a Mit­subishi pick-up trav­el­ling on the north­bound car­riage­way crossed the me­di­an and crashed in­to the Sub­aru which was trav­el­ling in the op­po­site di­rec­tion.

The dri­ver of the pick-up and a pas­sen­ger, who were both uniden­ti­fied last night, were tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where they un­der­went emer­gency treat­ment. Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr See­lochan vis­it­ed the scene and viewed the bod­ies which were or­dered re­moved to the San Fer­nan­do mor­tu­ary. Au­top­sies will be done on the bod­ies to­day. Cpl Wolfe of the Mon Re­pos Po­lice Sta­tion is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
