Last year’s San Juan Calypso Monarch Competition winner Amrika Mutroo collects the Lord Blakie Challenge Trophy from St Joseph MP Kennedy Swaratsingh last Thursday on the San Juan Promenade.

The San Juan 2010 Carnival Programme will be launched on Sunday at 5 pm with a steelband jamboree, featuring Pan Jammers Steel Orchestra, La Horquetta Pan Groove, NLCB East Side Symphony, masqueraders and tassa groups.

The annual San Juan Calypso Monarch Competition would be held on February 11. Last year’s winner and recipient of the Lord Blakie Challenge Trophy was Amrika Mutroo. Mutroo, a secondary school teacher, had been performing in the San Juan Calypso Monarch Competition for the last ten years and placed fourth in 2008. She collected her trophy for her 2009 win last Thursday from MP for St Joseph, Kennedy Swaratsingh.
