Cuban Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario is assuring that the 35 new Cuban nurses who have been added to T&T's health sector will do their jobs well.
"Be confident that they would accomplish their duties in a very professional and ethical manner," he said. He added: "That is not their duty, but also the human way they were trained." Rosario was speaking during the opening of the orientation programme for the nurses, at Crown Plaza, in Port-of-Spain, yesterday. These new nurses comprise the third batch of health workers to arrive in the country. The first, which comprised 14 doctors, were oriented last August, while the second–17 doctors and 28 nurses from Cuba and 13 from St Vincent–came in October, 2009.
"I assure you that through their work, the Cuban and Trinidadian bonds will continue to be forged," Rosario said. Minister of Health Jerry Narace noted that 35 Cuban doctors would be assigned throughout the Regional Health Authorities.
The nurses include:
2 Five in community care
2 Six in nephrology
2 Four in operating theatres
2 Nine in intensive care
2 Eight in emergency care
2 Three in neonatal
Narace said there were excellent reports about the performance of the Cubans from both the local medical care providers an users. "Thus far, in 2009 we have recruited a total of 128 foreign care professionals to serve our public health care sector."
