Warner congratulates Silver Stars for 2nd National Panorama title

Chair­man of Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC) Jack Warn­er is con­grat­u­lat­ing PCS Sil­ver Stars Steel Or­ches­tra on win­ning the na­tion­al Panora­ma ti­tle for the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive year. With its ren­di­tion of Ed­win Pouchet's Bat­tle Zone, Sil­ver Stars, of Tra­garete Road in Port-of-Spain, placed first with 291 points in the com­pe­ti­tion, which was held at Queen's Park Sa­van­nah on Sat­ur­day night.

Plac­ing sec­ond was Petrotrin Phase 11 Pan Groove, with 284 points, with Len Boogsie Sharpe's Pan Army. Third was for­mer cham­pi­on Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars, with 282 points. Warn­er, in his con­grat­u­la­to­ry let­ter, told the band man­ag­er, Kei­th By­er, that he was im­pressed when he and po­lit­i­cal leader of the UNC, Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar, vis­it­ed the band's pa­n­yard be­fore the stag­ing of the fi­nals.

"You did well, and you de­serve our thanks for such a won­der­ful­ly-ex­e­cut­ed ren­di­tion." Warn­er said it was the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive year that the band "de­feat­ed the tra­di­tion­al gi­ants, and it al­so sig­nalled that in the large band cat­e­go­ry you hold a 100 per cent record. "No oth­er pan side can boast of such an achieve­ment." Warn­er ad­vised band mem­bers to ac­cept their achieve­ment with hu­mil­i­ty.
