Businessman, sports lover Nafziger dies

Businessman and sports agent, Timothy Nafziger, died on Tuesday night at a Los Angeles hospital after a second aneurysm ruptured in his head. Nafziger left T&T last Thursday to seek medical treatment after suffering the first aneurysm. His wife Glenn and two children, Natalie and Jeffery, were at his side at the time of his death. American-born Nafziger came to Trinidad in the early 70s to assist with setting up Edu Systems. He was subsequently contracted by Government to set up MTS and also worked with the National Housing Authority. Nafziger later took up a job as chief executive officer of Carib Brewery Limited before becoming chairman of the manufacturing group in the ANSA McAL conglemorate.

In 1998, he started MediaNet and Media21 of which he was owner and executive chairman. Nafziger also was engaged in property development and was a sports lover and agent for several Caribbean players, including Dwight Yorke, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Lendl Simmons. He was also an advisor to the West Indies Players Association (WIPA). Nafziger was a member of Queen’s Park Cricket Club, Tranquillity and St James Tennis Clubs. He would also be remembered for his support of all sports through sponsorship of several different leagues and events, including the north zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation.
