Police team gears up for probe in Malaysia

?A team of po­lice of­fi­cers, as­signed to the An­ti-Cor­rup­tion and In­ves­ti­ga­tions Bu­reau, are prepar­ing to trav­el to Malaysia to probe al­le­ga­tions against for­mer ex­ec­u­tive chair­man of Ude­cott Calder Hart. In Malaysia, the de­tec­tives would seek to ob­tain cer­tain doc­u­ments re­lat­ing to Hart's wife Sher­rine. A source at the ACIB said head of the unit, Se­nior Supt Ter­ry Young, would se­lect no more than four in­ves­ti­ga­tors to trav­el to Malaysia where the probe would of­fi­cial­ly be­gin. Yes­ter­day, Young con­firmed of­fi­cers were be­ing sent to Malaysia. When asked when the of­fi­cers would leave Trinidad, he said: "Very soon, very soon. We are look­ing to send them as soon as pos­si­ble."

Last week, the Con­gress of the Peo­ple pre­sent­ed doc­u­ments which claimed Hart had fam­i­ly links with di­rec­tors of CH De­vel­op­ment, now called Sun­way – a com­pa­ny which was award­ed a $368.9 mil­lion con­tract by Ude­cott to con­struct the Le­gal Af­fairs Tow­ers in Port-of-Spain. The ACIB of­fi­cers were called in hours af­ter Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Roger Gas­pard, ad­vised act­ing Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er James Philbert the po­lice should probe al­le­ga­tions made against the Harts.
