Who owns Caribbean's water resources?

"Wa­ter, The Pri­or­i­ty Agen­da" will be the top­ic when The Lloyd Best In­sti­tute of the West In­dies kicks off the 2010 edi­tion of its an­nu­al "Sem­i­nar for Pro­fes­sion­als" se­ries next week. The sem­i­nar takes place on April 13 from 5.30 pm at the Au­dio Vi­su­al Room of the Nalis Build­ing cor­ner of Hart and Queen Streets, Port of Spain.

The evening's dis­cus­sion will be led off by two pre­sen­ters. An­ge­lo Bisses­sars­ingh will de­liv­er an his­tor­i­cal per­spec­tive on wa­ter in T&T while Dr Lester Forde, a mem­ber of the Steer­ing Com­mit­tee of the Glob­al Wa­ter Part­ner­ship, will ad­dress the crit­i­cal is­sues sur­round­ing the man­age­ment of T&T's wa­ter re­sources and fac­tors af­fect­ing wa­ter se­cu­ri­ty in the Caribbean and be­yond.

Among the top­ics ex­pect­ed to be cov­ered from the floor is that of the own­er­ship of T&T's wa­ter re­sources. This mat­ter has re­cent­ly come to the fore with WASA's an­nounce­ment of a li­cence re­quire­ment for tak­ing wa­ter from the ground.
