The funeral of the late Caribbean economist Prof Dennis Pantin will take place on his birthday on Tuesday at the St Augustine campus' Sports and Physical Education Centre Grounds (UWI Spec) at 10 am.
Pantin, 61, succumbed to cancer of the bile duct at his Maracas, St Joseph, home on Tuesday. His wife Yolande said: "We would have wanted him to be here for his birthday. He was low. But still we would have wanted him to be here. Instead, we would be sending him home on his birthday."
She also said Pantin's farewell ceremony would include a full Catholic Mass at which Father Clyde Harvey would be the chief celebrant. Tributes will be read by his son Machel, UWI economist Norvan Girvan and friend/journalist Lennox Grant. Wreaths will be accepted. A donation will be taken up for Pantin's favourite charities.
The interment takes places at UWI's burial plot. Pantin leaves to mourn his other children Marielle and Gabrielle, centenarian mother Alba Pantin and siblings Manuel, Maritza, Raoul, Delisa and Franky.
