Heavy afternoon showers cause chaos for commuters in and out of central Trinidad yesterday. The flash-flooding that followed created long lines of traffic along the Southern Main Road as motorists diverted from the Solomon Hochoy Highway because of water crossing at two points along the southbound lane south of the Freeport Flyover.

Commuters travelling from Port-of-Spain to South were stuck in snail’s pace traffic. Others took as much as two hours to get from Chaguanas to Couva. Residents and businessmen in Central said many abandoned watercourses through Caroni lands were in dire need of cleaning. They called for a public education campaign that urges nationals not to dump garbage carelessly.
