Five eye clinics will be opened soon in the constituency of Caroni Central. The assurance came from MP for the area Glen Ramadharsingh who said after the opening some 700 eyeglasses would be distributed to people who could not afford them.
The Minister of the People and Social Development was speaking on Tuesday during the distribution of wheelchairs to disabled people in his constituency. The distribution exercise took place at his constituency office. Ramadharsingh said the wheelchairs were part of a donation which came from the Government's collaboration with local and international groups.
He said some of the items were being stored at the T&T Red Cross Society, Port-of-Spain.
The minister said it was now necessary to pave the compound of the Red Cross to provide parking for the many containers of relief supplies the Government had been receiving. Relatives of the disabled people who received wheelchairs said they were happy because many of the recipients were elderly and had trouble moving around.
