Five eye clin­ics will be opened soon in the con­stituen­cy of Ca­roni Cen­tral. The as­sur­ance came from MP for the area Glen Ra­mad­hars­ingh who said af­ter the open­ing some 700 eye­glass­es would be dis­trib­uted to peo­ple who could not af­ford them.

The Min­is­ter of the Peo­ple and So­cial De­vel­op­ment was speak­ing on Tues­day dur­ing the dis­tri­b­u­tion of wheel­chairs to dis­abled peo­ple in his con­stituen­cy. The dis­tri­b­u­tion ex­er­cise took place at his con­stituen­cy of­fice. Ra­mad­hars­ingh said the wheel­chairs were part of a do­na­tion which came from the Gov­ern­ment's col­lab­o­ra­tion with lo­cal and in­ter­na­tion­al groups.

He said some of the items were be­ing stored at the T&T Red Cross So­ci­ety, Port-of-Spain.

The min­is­ter said it was now nec­es­sary to pave the com­pound of the Red Cross to pro­vide park­ing for the many con­tain­ers of re­lief sup­plies the Gov­ern­ment had been re­ceiv­ing. Rel­a­tives of the dis­abled peo­ple who re­ceived wheel­chairs said they were hap­py be­cause many of the re­cip­i­ents were el­der­ly and had trou­ble mov­ing around.
