The vast majority of plans and projects in the People's Partnership Government's 2010/2011 budget are PNM projects, PNM MP Colm Imbert said yesterday. "For example the Motor Vehicle Licensing Authority which is being done with 'Canadian help' which the Finance Minister announced is the same project we signed an agreement with the Nova Scotia authorities to undertake since 2008–they even kept the same name for the authority which we approved in Cabinet," Imbert said.
"We received funding for the project and undoubtedly they have to follow through with it since it is a government-to-government contractual agreement which can't be broken." Imbert said he had also examined locating the new authority which the PNM was undertaking at a central Mt Hope location with a mechanical garage at Frederick Settlement in Caroni.
He noted that the People's Partnership wanted to site the entire Licensing Authority at Caroni. "The location they've chosen is hard to access...Any such authority needs to be at a crossroad which is why we were choosing Mt Hope which is accessible from east, west, north and south," Imbert said.
