Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday alleged that the shadowy Strategic Intelligence Agency (SIA), which she exposed in Parliament on Friday, had directed majority State-owned TSTT and Irish-owned Digicel to monitor the cellphone calls, text messages and e-mails of private citizens.

"The facilities there were being utilised but it was that TSTT was commanded so to do and thereafter Digicel was commanded so to do; to allow the facilities to be used," said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister's claim came yesterday as she addressed members of the media after she attended the Memorial Day event at Memorial Park in Port-of-Spain.

She confirmed that the Government intended to pass the report of the investigations thus far to the Director of Public Prosecutions and she said that it would be up to the DPP to decide whether people were to be charged or not.
