From today until December 30 some 150 seasonal vendors will occupy the space which once housed the Salvatori Building in downtown Port-of-Spain. Port-of-Spain mayor Louis Lee Sing said the vendors, who are not full-time vendors, will remain there for the next two weeks until 6.30 pm on the last day.
He said the cost for occupying a tent was $650 a week "to cover the cost of the project." Lee Sing said there would be no vending in Woodford Square.
"They are all seasonal vendors. Some are apple vendors... fruit vendors.
"This project is to assist in creating employment for people for the Christmas season," Lee Sing added.
Tents were erected over the weekend and yesterday those interested were seen registering for booths at the site. Lee Sing said the vendors came from "all over."
