The five teenage girls from the St Jude’s School for girls who were reported missing on Friday were back at the home on the very same day.
Officials said the girls were not missing but instead opted to travel back to the facility on their own, triggering an immediate response from the Civilian Conservation where they had been attending classes.
Guardian Media was told that the 17-year-old identified as Tasha Sansan, Priya Jaglal, Leann Modeste, LaToya Charles, and Letisha Correia arrived at the Belmont facility around 7 pm on Friday after travelling on their own.
Officials said the girls were last seen at the Barataria Recreation Grounds at 11:15 am on Friday. A report regarding their disappearance was made to the Barataria Police Station just after midday on the same day.
So why make a report so quickly?
Well, according to Assistant Manager of St Judes School for girls, Deoraj Sookdeo, the girls were supposed to wait for transportation provided by the school, but instead, they travelled which led to them arriving late at the home. He explained that a count was being done by social workers and the girls could not be accounted for at the recreation ground.
Sookdeo added, it is the policy of the Civilian Conservation Corps to report immediately when youngsters in their care are unaccounted.
While the five teenaged girls are safe, another teenager remains missing.
Letitisha St Paul, who left with two other girls on July 27th has not been seen or heard from since.
The other girls are back at the facility.
In recent times, the home has been in the spotlight.
In late July, three teens from the same home were taken to hospital for treatment after they ingested stolen medication.
