Police are investigating the assault of a School Safety Officer at the Belmont Secondary School by two men, earlier today.
Guardian Media understands two armed men entered the school’s compound through a breach near the farm area.
Health and Security Officer Shaka Wallace said he was patrolling the compound, when on approaching the farm area, he bumped into two masked gunmen.
The Officer was ordered to walk to the back of the school and said he tried alerting students to what was unfolding.
However, Wallace observed Police Officers nearing the school and believes that was what spooked the gunmen, who escaped.
President of the School’s PTA Shurlanda Malcom told Guardian Media she was grateful for Wallace’s efforts but felt their pleas for the school to be repaired have fallen on deaf ears.
Malcom is appealing to the Education Minister to visit the Belmont Secondary School and see for herself, how students and staff are at risk.
