Of­fi­cers at the Bel­mont Po­lice Sta­tion es­caped death and se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter gun­men opened fire on the build­ing dur­ing the ear­ly hours of yes­ter­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, around 3.05 am, Cpl Caracil­low and PC Phillips were on du­ty in the CID of­fice lo­cat­ed on the north-west­ern side of the build­ing’s sec­ond floor when they heard three gun­shots.

The of­fi­cers al­so heard a loud crash­ing sound from the win­dow on the west­ern side of the of­fice. Both of­fi­cers took cov­er.

A short while af­ter, while mak­ing checks around the sta­tion, the of­fi­cers saw what looked like bul­let holes in the win­dow and dam­age to the cen­tral door of the of­fice. Po­lice said as the two of­fi­cers con­tin­ued to make fur­ther checks around the sta­tion, they spot­ted three pro­jec­tiles on the ground of the of­fice.

No one was in­jured.

ASPs Fer­gu­son and Walk­er, in com­pa­ny with In­spec­tor Sood­een, vis­it­ed the scene. A CSI team sub­se­quent­ly processed the scene.

Po­lice are work­ing on the the­o­ry that gun­men opened fire on the sta­tion since they said giv­en the dam­age, the shoot­ing was de­lib­er­ate­ly done as the gun­men aimed sole­ly at the sta­tion.
