A 27-year-old hairdresser was shot nine times while she was waiting for her boyfriend in Malabar, Arima, on Sunday night.
Police said at about 10.30 pm, Tashay Melville, 27, of Champs Fleurs, was seated in a brown Hyundai Elantra at Joseph Avenue, off La Croix Road, when gunmen opened fire on her. She was shot in the stomach, hands and thighs.
Melville was taken to the Arima Health Facility by a passerby and transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope where up to press time she was reported to be in serious but stable condition.
Police are yet to determine a motive for the shooting.
Yesterday, her close friends said they could not “deal with any bad news” and sent up fervent prayers for her to “pull through.” Investigations are continuing.
