The HDC is warning the public to be wary of fraudsters imitating executive members of its team online.
According to the HDC, the fraudsters forge signatures or create fake profiles on WhatsApp and target unsuspecting and vulnerable citizens with promises of expediting housing applications in exchange for cash.
On Tuesday, three people were arrested in a sting operation, attempting to defraud two businessmen by pretending to be employees.
The HDC reiterates in its advisory that placement for Government-subsidised housing is completed by a Random-selection Draw that is broadcast live to the public.
"The HDC is pleading with the public to do its part to prevent the rise of this vicious scheme. If someone offers a house in exchange for any monetary gain, please contact the HDC to verify the validity of the proposal," the HDC said in a release.
It added: "Persons should not conduct financial transactions in locations other than HDC buildings.”
Official HDC offices are its Head Office, located at 44-46 South Quay, Port of Spain; its South Office located at 2 Mc Gillivary Street, San Fernando; and its Maloney Office, located at Jacana Avenue, Maloney Gardens, D’abadie.
