Trinidad and To­ba­go stu­dents study­ing in the Unit­ed King­dom will now be able to work in the coun­try for three years af­ter com­plet­ing their stud­ies.

This was an­nounced by Brid­get Philip­son MP, the Sec­re­tary of State for Ed­u­ca­tion three weeks af­ter the Labour par­ty won a land­slide elec­tion.

In a speech on Thurs­day, Philip­son said the UK val­ues and wel­comes in­ter­na­tion­al stu­dents in a keynote speech at the Em­bassy Ed­u­ca­tion Con­fer­ence in Lon­don. The op­por­tu­ni­ty to live and work in the UK for up to three years post-stud­ies is open to all in­ter­na­tion­al stu­dents.

In her speech, she said, "Closed sys­tems that on­ly look in­ward quick­ly run out of ideas. Cre­ativ­i­ty crum­bles, in­no­va­tion dies, the same thoughts spin round and round and col­lapse in on them­selves. But through our in­ter­na­tion­al part­ners, we can reach out across the world and bring back a fresh­ness of thought that breathes new life in­to our so­ci­ety."
