An investigation has been launched after an eight-year-old pupil of the Longdenville Presbyterian Primary School was allegedly badly beaten and dragged on the ground while on the school’s compound on Tuesday.
Guardian Media was told by the girl’s mother that her daughter alleged that an 11-year-old girl, whom she described as a school bully, took off a belt and started beating her child with it.
The child, who lives in Enterprise, Chaguanas, was allegedly also dragged on the ground for several metres, causing injuries to her legs.
The alleged incident occurred shortly after school was dismissed on Tuesday.
Following a report made by the parent of the wounded Standard Two pupil, a community police officer from the Cunupia Police Station, WPC Boyd, has begun inquiries.
Efforts to contact the school principal Susan Ram for comment proved futile, as she was absent from school yesterday.
However, Sgt Small, of the Central Division’s Community Policing Unit, said a team of officers will be sent to the school today to investigate further. —Rhondor Dowlat
