Competing in the Power category in his return to the International Soca Monarch following his abstention from the competition last year, Iwer George has been named as one of the 16 finalists in this year’s competition.
George had attributed his return to the competition to the reintroduction of the Power Category.
Joining him in the Power category are Mr Killa, Lil Natty and Thunder, Terri Lyons, Chingee, Granny, Jo Jo and Mr Legz.
The finalists for the Groovy category are Teddyson John, Swappi, Blaxx, Mandella, Ricardo Drue, V’ghn, Tim Tim/Rayzor, and Preedy.
While both Blaxx and Motto competed in the semifinals in both categories, Blaxx was the only of the pair to move forward with his contending song in the Groovy category.
The finalists will put their best foot forward on Fantastic Friday— March 1—at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
This year is the first time the competition was headed by a soca artiste and past competitor in the competition— Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez— who was appointed as it’s chairman last month.
This year’s competition was also one of the first in recent times to have gotten all round positive reviews on social media. Many attendees also lauded the competition for its timely and finishing before the scheduled end time. Keeping within it’s time has been something the competition struggled with in years gone by.
