“Women please notify the police before exiting a turbulent space…”
That’s the urgent advice being shared by president of the International Women’s Resource Network (IWRN), Adriana Sandrine Rattan.
It comes after a murder-suicide involving teacher/attorney-at-law, Keisha Bostic, who was killed by her estranged husband, Shamzard Mohammed, who then ended his own life, on Friday, November 4.
“The IWRN is again appealing to WOMEN to please notify the POLICE before exiting a turbulent relationship, particularly if the new space is known to the perpetrator,” the IWRN president wrote in a statement.
“There has been sufficient evidence in the past which shows that MEN have extreme difficulty in accepting rejection. Even if they appear to be calm about the situation, deep within they feel emasculated,” she explained.
She added: “The organization is again making a strong plea to women who are either victims of abuse and/or estranged relationships to remove feelings of shame and dismay from their situation, and instead share pertinent details with individuals who can render some type of support and assistance. The IWRN reminds that being quiet after a separation does not mean acceptance even over a prolonged period.”
The IWRN president also is reminding the public they must do their part in such situations:
“We are duty bound to be continuously vigilant and act responsibly, particularly if the situation is/was fuelled with turbulence.”
She also stressed the importance of help for men in such situations.
“More needs to be done to assist our MEN to understand that rejection does not mean the end of the world,” she stated.
She advises men to, “instead use that rejected moment to reflect and reach out for the appropriate assistance to rebound.”
