Police Commissioner Mc Donald Jacob is hopeful that a preliminary report into the death of PC Clarence Gilkes will be submitted to him within the next two weeks.
The T&T Police Service (TTPS) is currently investigating the April 22 shooting death in Rich Plain, Diego Martin.
Initially, it had been reported that a resident of the area was the main suspect in the shooting, as the officers involved in the incident claimed Gilkes had been shot as they searched the area for suspects who were reportedly seen by residents carrying high-powered weapons.
However, an autopsy revealed that Gilkes had been shot in the back of the head and the police probe took a different turn.
Yesterday, Jacob said, “I had said it could take about three months, but I am hoping they can complete it in less time.”
He pointed out the speed of the probe had been slowed a bit as one of the main persons investigators needed to interview had been out of the country for some time and had only recently returned.
“It will take some time and the investigators are back and forth by the DPP. The investigation is ongoing.”
Although it’s been about five weeks now since the investigation began, he said, “I am hoping that within the next two weeks, I should be getting something from them.”
