Opposition Leader Kamla Persad- Bissessar is looking forward to spending time with her family for Christmas - but she’s also worried about many who have been encountering losses and problems.
Persad- Bissessar shared her Christmas wish and message with Trinidad Guardian yesterday in between her annual toy-drive gift distribution throughout her constituency.
She said, “I look forward to meeting people and seeing the joy on children’s faces when they receive their gifts. But sadly, I know there are many who are facing a bleak Christmas - thousands have lost their jobs, flood victims are still counting their losses and trying to rebuild their lives, and some have fallen victim to criminals. “
“I know it may be difficult for people to remain positive in the trying times we currently face, but I call on citizens to keep hope alive. We must, each, be our brother’s and sister’s keeper – do what we can to help.”
She said her party has been visiting communities throughout the country in recent years to hear what people’s needs are.
“I promise to continue to take the time to consult with people, to listen to their concerns and together, develop solutions to those problems. “
Persad-Bissessar said TT is facing an economic crisis, “As limited efforts have been made to generate revenue, diversify the economy, encourage foreign investment or create sustainable jobs, and crime continues unabated.”
“As we head into 2020, I wish to assure that the UNC is fully prepared, and has a vision and plan to move TT forward. We’re building a dynamic team with experience, competence, and the drive and determination to return good governance. Our National Economic Transformation Masterplan will involve and benefit all citizens; but we’ll need all hands, minds and hearts to come together and to work towards building a brighter, more prosperous future for TT. Let’s get T&T working again - Merry Christmas, and a bright and prosperous New Year.”
