ANISTO ALVES

It’s been four days since a tip-off revelation from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley that shocked and in some cases confused the Lower House of Parliament and Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has not put out a defense.

On Monday Rowley said, “I didn’t know Marlene Mc Donald was going to get arrested but one month before she was arrested the Leader of the Opposition could have called her to her office and tell her she was going to be arrested.”

Since then the Port of Spain South Member of Parliament has affirmed her leader’s statement.

She said that when Mrs Persad Bissessar reportedly spoke to her she knew it was coming from “high up.” She expressed that she had “no doubt” in her mind that the Opposition Leader was speaking the truth and she had no reason to doubt her.

Also speaking out on the matter was Police Commissioner Gary Griffith who expressed to Guardian Media,

“It is absolutely impossible that anyone could of made such a statement and be accurate about it because several weeks before there was nothing remotely close to going ahead to confirm any MP was to be arrested.”

The only person that has not addressed the matter is the Opposition Leader.

Guardian Media has been trying to reach Persad Bissessar by telephone but she has not answered.

We sought to get a response through other members of the party but this too has failed.

At a news conference on Wednesday, the party’s Public Relations Officer Anita Haynes dismissed Rowley’s claims as a distraction from other national issues.

But for the many citizens following this story, they will just have to wait on a confirmation or denial from Persad-Bissessar herself.
