The ‘Master Artist’ has been cremated.
The last rites for artist extraordinaire LeRoy Clarke, who passed away on Tuesday were performed on Wednesday.
A statement from the family of the 82-year-old Master Artist stated that following a private transition ceremony Clarke was cremated at Belgroves in Trincity.
The process, the release said, was done in accordance with Clarke’s wishes which were made clear to his family.
“Daddy was very explicit with his final wishes and he entrusted those closest to him to ensure what he wanted was carried out to the letter,” Clarke’s daughter Adaeze Clarke wrote.
The release said Clarke’s health had been on the decline for some time and being ill during the pandemic, the once sociable Clarke was limited to interacting with friends and loved ones via video and phone calls.
The family expressed their gratitude to the public for respecting their requests for privacy during this time of mourning.
They disclosed, via the release, the public would have the opportunity to celebrate the life of Clarke with a planned memorial in August and several exhibitions and initiatives to be staged both locally and internationally.
“Galleries and museums globally have shown interest in the collections. We will endeavour, of course, to make sure
the people of the Caribbean have access to his works and publications,” the release said.
