A 44-year-old man was arrested by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU) following reports of domestic violence in the Oropouche district, yesterday.
According to official police reports, at about 1.15 pm on Monday 22nd June 2020, police officers responded to a report made by a housewife of Rousillac, that she was allegedly assaulted by her husband.
The victim reportedly contacted officers of the Oropouche Police Station and told them her husband had come home from work and became enraged during a conversation, after which he reportedly dealt her several blows about her body causing swelling, pains and discomfort.
The victim’s son who intervened also was allegedly dealt several blows to his face by the suspect.
Police report that the wife told them she became fearful for her life, as the suspect threatened to kill her.
Official police reports are that W/Cpl (Ag) Ramjattan, PC Roberts, WPCs Stoute and Andrews responded to the call. Both victims—mother and son—were taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital where they were medically examined.
The suspect subsequently was arrested and taken to the La Brea Police Station, pending further enquiries by GBVU officers.
