A 44-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Belmont on Sunday.
The victim was driving east along Belle Eau Road around 9:30 p.m. when, near the Belmont R.C. School, occupants of an unidentified Nissan Tiida opened fire on him. The victim was struck multiple times, and his vehicle, a dark-coloured Mazda 6, was also damaged in the attack.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to drive a short distance before crashing into a wall near #24 Belle Eau Road.
Emergency Health Services were called, and the victim was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds and internal injuries.
He is in critical condition and he was scheduled for several surgeries.
At the scene, first responders secured the area, and investigators recovered 48 shell casings.
The damaged vehicle was towed to the Belmont Police Station for further investigation.
