A man believed to be homeless is this country's latest road fatality after he was knocked down by a driver in Chaguanas early on Wednesday morning.
Police said the man who was identified only as "Broko" was knocked down by the driver of a beige Toyota Hilux on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, near a Vedic Primary School, after the Chaguanas Overpass around 5.45 am.
The 76-year-old driver, reported that he heard a loud noise but did not see anything unusual.
The driver visited the Freeport Police Station and reported the incident, as officers of the Freeport Highway Patrol visited the area and found the man lying on the centre lane.
Chaguanas police and crime scene investigators also visited the area with a district medical officer who declared the man dead.
The body was taken to the Mt Hope Hospital's mortuary pending the completion of an autopsy.
