Investigations are continuing into the death of Virgil Saunders in Central yesterday morning.
Police said Saunders was liming at a bar close to St Mary’s Junction and as he was attempting to go into his vehicle after leaving the establishment, a gunman approached and shot him.
Saunders died on the scene.
The incident occurred after 3 am, just at the time the bar was closing.
Police said Saunders was known to ply his car as a ‘PH’ taxi along the Chaguanas to St Mary’s Junction route. Police also said Saunders was popular in the Central area among limers.
Saunders’ relatives, who were at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, declined to comment, except to say that he was the father of a two-year-old child.
In an unrelated incident, police are investigating the cause of a fire in Enterprise, Chaguanas, which claimed the life of a man.
Guardian Media understands that on Sunday morning, police were alerted that a galvanized structure was engulfed in flames.
After the blaze was contained, police discovered the body of 36-year-old Devanand Balchan.
Police say they obtained CCTV footage that showed two people fleeing from the scene shortly before the fire began.
Investigations are ongoing.
