A man who was shot during an alleged police-involved shooting in Cocorite on Thursday night has succumbed to his injuries.
He has been identified as Travis Hypolite of Cocorite.
According to a police report, around 10:15 pm members of Western Division Task Force were on exercise in the Cocorite area where they met a group of men, several of whom were allegedly armed with firearms.
On seeing the officers, the men ran off in different directions and officers gave chase.
However, officers had cause to shoot one man in accordance with the TTPS use of force policy, who was allegedly armed with an AK 47 with 18 rounds 5.56 ammunition along a stairway.
The suspect was taken to the St James Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds where he was pronounced dead.
Another man, also of Cocorite, was held in possession of a submachine gun with 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The firearms and ammunition were seized by police and sent for forensic analysis.
